Vince called me out in the restaurant and sat down ..he said we been working for a long while together, I raised you up like my brother ..no son !! I saw a passion and love for cooking in your eyes, the same I had, we shared the same passion, and that is rare to find. You can find people that cook just as a job and there are those who do it with there hearts and you are one of them...
He continued...I was approached my a big hotel (I again wont mention the name of the hotel since I want to protect the persons in my journal) they offered me the position as a head chef, and I will except!. He stood up and walked to the window opened the wooden blinds and pointed across the harbour, its there where I'm going !! (omg it was a major hotel that was about to open a link of its chain here!! it carried such a prestigious name!!)
I was shocked Vince was my mentor he thought me all I know ..now I would end up alone without a teacher ? there is so much I want, I crave, I wanted more!!
He sat down again and and said " you will join me in this adventure !! you will be part of that team!!"
I was so happy !! me part of such a big thing? and he be there to help me !!
To make a long story short...he offered me a very good wage!! and that was enough for me to make a move!
Later that evening the head chef and director called me in the office.
I looked at Vince and he said "do what man do! be a man they will offer you to stay, they know I would ask you to come with me, and they cant loose you too!! just grab (sorry ladies) ...just grab your balls and make the move!!". I was sure of it I would do it I would have never leave Vince.
At the office... sat down and the chef started with I know that Vince probably told you about his resignation, and that he will leave as soon as he finishes working his notice! he continued ..and we are sure that he will sooner or later ask you to join him....(I stood still staring at them and without whispering a word)
He added ..as a sign of appreciation of your work we are giving you an additional bonus, he wrote an amount on a paper and handed it over to me. ( I could not believe my eyes they gave me the amount Vince offered me !!) I stood up and walked to the door, the chef said, I give you a week think about it! you know where you stand here with us!
Back at the kitchen Vince came to me and said ...so, how much did they offer?
I said, same as you did!
Fuckers!! he replied, you are worth more then that!!! (sorry for this, don't mean to brag)
The days passed and yet again I was called at the office, again the chef and director were there, asked me what was I be doing.
My reply was "I wish to give my resignation! its time for a move I guess", It was sad but I had to do what a man is suppose to do!! (Vince thought me that!!).
The director stood up wrote something on a sheet folded and handed over to me, "go!!" he said!.
I walked out and closed the door behind, unfolded the sheet now sweaty in the palm of my hand...
I stared at it for a minute just to make sure I was not mistaken or missing a digit !!...
I couldn't believe..I walked back then ran the last bit (skipped and done a few piruates I think).
Back in the kitchen, I shouted "Vince!! I can't believe it!! They doubled the amount !!!"
"So you are not coming with me? right?"
"I don't know" I said.
"Good you have become a mercenary, you got bribed by money, well that is ok" he said, "a year! I give you a year and I will come back for you!."
I never had anything, I was raised appreciating the little I had, and I was happy with that, I never asked for more then I had. But this is like "manna" falling from heaven!!.
